A quick-thinking resident helped avert a major disaster when a car went up in flames on a busy Abu Dhabi street on Sunday morning.

Two cars crashed on the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, popularly known as Salam Street. In a video recorded by a KT reader, a woman can be seen walking away from one of the cars as a fire breaks out inside.

The unidentified Good Samaritan can be seen walking calmly towards the car and borrowing a fire extinguisher from a minibus driver on the road. However, the extinguisher did not have enough pressure to kill the fire.

A small explosion can be heard soon after. The resident is seen returning with another fire extinguisher, with which he brings the flame under control.

As soon as they were notified, the police reached the spot and reopened the road to traffic.
