  Published: Sunday, August 09, 2009
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is seeking to get the sport of falconry included in the Unesco’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is organising a workshop on falconry Aug 17-18 in preparation for submitting a file for the registration with the Unesco, WAM news agency reported.

Countries participating in the workshop include the UAE, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, Belgium, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mongolia, South Korea, and Spain.

Nasser Al Hameeri, director of the Department of the Intangible Heritage at ADACH, said that during the workshop, the falconry registration file will be put in its final form.

The file will be submitted to the secretariat of UNESCO before the Aug 31 deadline for applications this year. It will be reviewed in May 2010 by a committee of experts at the UNESCO and the final decisions will be announced in Sep 2010, he added.
