After Samsung launched its redeeming Galaxy Note 8 and before Apple finally unveils its 10th-anniversary iPhone, Sony Mobile and LG Electronics want to join in the party - and conversation.
Meet the new devices from these industry giants, which they unveiled at IFA Berlin 2017 on Thursday.

Xperia XZ1, XA1 Plus
Sony Mobile continued with its tradition of launching multiple devices at the event, flaunting its flagship Xperia XZ1 - and the smaller XZ1 Compact - that has a "ground-breaking" Motion-Eye camera, which can capture detail "beyond human eye capability", in addition to 3D scanning, "class-leading" technologies for HDR display and improved high-resolution audio.
The Xperia XZ1's 19MP main camera also comes with a memory-stacked Exmor RS sensor, while its HD front snapper has a 13MP resolution. It comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, and also retains the super-slow-motion capabilities of its predecessor, the Xperia XZ Premium, with the ability to shoot at 960 frames per second. It has a 5.2-inch full-HD display.
It is also scheduled to ship with the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 8.0 Oreo.
The Xperia XA1 Plus, meanwhile, is the follow-up to the mid-range XA1 and XA1 Ultra smartphones, which were launched in April and May, respectively.
The 5.5-inch device offers a full-HD display and boasts audio with ClearAudio+ and Smart Amplifier, plus a 23MP main camera.
According to a release from Sony Mobile, the Xperia XZ1 will be available for pre-order in the UAE from September 7, though no final date for its availability was provided. It will be priced at Dh2,199, and will come with a complimentary Sony XB20 Bluetooth speaker.
The Dh1,199 Xperia XA1 Plus will be available in stores towards the end of October.

V30
LG, meanwhile, launched the V30, which "charts the new mobile frontier with premium cinematography capabilities".
The South Korean company's newest flagship device once again featured what it called several firsts in a smartphone: F1.6 aperture camera lens, glass Crystal Clear Lens, OLED FullVision display, Cine Video mode for producing movie-quality videos, advanced Hi-Fi Quad-DAC, sound tuning from B&O Play and voice recognition.
The V30 features several upgrades from its predecessor, the V20. Its display has been bumped up from 5.7 inches to six inches, while the second lens in its dual-camera is now up at 13MP from the previous 8MP. It also comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip.
