Body parts were found near a spot where the beach volleyball competition will take place during the Rio Olympics starting from August 5, Brazilian officials said.

Rio de Janeiro state police on Wednesday announced that authorities have not identified the victim yet who was found in the Copacabana beach, EFE news reported citing Jornal do Brasil daily.

A probe is being carried out by a forensics team, the officials added.

The daily noted that the appearance of the body coincides with an upsurge in concern about the ability of authorities to ensure the safety of athletes and spectators attending the games.
