Womens tournament set for takeoff

Dubai - The Dubai Sports Council has ratified the list of sponsors and supporters of the event arranged by the Woman's Sports Committee at the DSC as per the directives of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of DSC.

The Shaikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament takes off today and will run till September 19 with a revised list of sponsors for the biggest women's sports event in the country.
The Dubai Sports Council has ratified the list of sponsors and supporters of the event arranged by the Woman's Sports Committee at the DSC as per the directives of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of DSC.
The event is being held under the patronage of Shaikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
The ratified sponsor list includes 14 companies and corporations. The strategic list consists of Dubai Refreshments Co.; Techno Jim Co.; Al Dahmani Jewellery; Al Futtaim Motors; and Dubai Sports Channel. The main sponsor list includes Qatar Airways Co.; B 360 Watches; and Dubai Stars.
The supporting list includes: Bukhari Sweets; Ronaldo Restaurants Co.; cycle DDE - livcycling-me; Mais International Co.; ITL World Travel Co.; and Yonex.
Moza Al Marri, board member, DSC; chairwoman of the Woman's Sports Committee and head of the organising committee, said: "We are pleased with the massive response of national, Arab and foreign companies for the event. The sponsorship reflects the desire of these companies to support sports sector."
Organisers say all preparations have been done and the time has come for another showdown. There will be eight individual and teams competitions namely - chess, road race, basketball, handball, volleyball, swimming and cycling.
The chess and road race competitions will begin today at Dubai Chess & Cultural Club and the Al Khawaneej Racecourse respectively. The basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton competitions commence on Saturday at the Dubai World Trade Center while the swimming events take place at Al Wasl Club. The cycling championships will be held at the Nad Al Sheba Cycling Racecourse.
Fawziya Fraidoon, manager, Cultural Activities, Woman's Sports Committee and head of the tournament, said: "The tournament has attained remarkable success during the last years. The event attracts women's attention for the importance of the exercise of sports and physical activities and to make the same as lifestyle."
