Jorge Valdivia has kept his word. The Chilean international, who was one of the stars at the Copa America, has completed his move to Arabian Gulf League side Al Wahda.
Valdivia confirmed his exit from Brazilian side Palmeiras on Thursday and Al Wahda announced on their official website on the same day that they had completed the signing. Validivia arrives on a free transfer. The Clarets have inked a two-year deal worth ?2.5 million per year which will see Valdivia return to the UAE for a second spell. Nicknamed 'El Majo,' which means 'The Magician,' Validivia had a successful period with Al Ain from 2008 to 2010.
"Al Wahda confirms that Chilean Jorge Valdivia has signed a final contract to join the team. The contract is for two years with an annual salary of ?2.5 million," Al Wahda said in a statement.
The club also confirmed that former Arsenal midfielder Denilson will arrive in the Capital on Saturday and link-up with the squad. "Denilison is scheduled to arrive in Abu Dhabi on Saturday to join the team's training. The club paid Brazilian side Sao Paulo ?3 million with Denilson set to get ?1.8 million for three years," the club added.
Al Wahda also revealed that they had expressed interest in sigining Musallem Fayez from city rivals Al Jazira but the Pride of Abu Dhabi were not willing to part with the defender. "Al Wahda had made an official offer to Al Jazira regarding Musallem Fayez but Al Jazira apologized and said that weren't willing to sell him," the club said.
Valdivia apparently has confirmed that he will be leaving Palmeiras, according to sambafoot.com. His contract runs until August 17 and Al Wahda are trying to cancel it earlier so that he join the squad before they embark on their pre-season training camp.
Also, the Arabian Gulf League is scheduled to begin from August 20.
