For someone who missed the cut at the first two events of the Desert Swing, Denmark's Lasse Jensen perhaps drew inspiration from his famous countryman Thomas Bjorn.
Though he fell five shots from emulating Bjorn, Jensen put a truly sterling performance at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the final round of the Desert Swing.
The Dane, ranked 382 in the world and having missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, finished tied for third after the final round on Sunday. The 32-year-old shot the lowest score of the day, a fantastic seven-under to finish at 14-under to be tied with Englishman Tyrrell Hatton.
Jensen was quite obviously pleased to come up with a dream round.
"I didn't do a lot wrong, really. I played very, very solid and had a strong finish here on the back nine," said Jensen, who had six birdies, an eagle and a bogey in his round.
And Jensen, who was smooth on the Majlis Course, revealed that he had played tactical golf. "I was trying to play my cards right, and then attack when you can. This golf course, if you underestimate it a little bit, then it can suddenly grab you. So you need to play a bit smart but still also make some birdies," he said.
It also came as a surprise for Jensen that he managed to play so well considering that he was laid low by fever during the Abu Dhabi week and then spent time recovering during the Qatar Masters. "In Abu Dhabi, I had a fever, and then last week I was trying to recover. And then everything just clicked this week. So, it was maybe a bit surprising that I actually played that well this week because I feel like my game was getting where I want it to be but I thought maybe it would take a bit more time to get out of winter and get the rust out of the system," Jensen said.
Jensen said that this showing will give him a massive boost going into the next few weeks.
"This is huge, and obviously it gives me a lot of boost and confidence for the next couple of weeks," he said.
