Al Ahli's Senegalese striker Makhete Diop topped the polls on the "Arabian Gulf Cup Final Star", following his title-winning brace against Al Shabab in his side's 2-0 win on Saturday night.
The Pro League Committee had extended the voting overnight on its various social media channels "@AGLeague" to allow the greatest number of fans to vote for their man of the match in the final.
Diop will be honoured by the PLC ahead of Al Ahli's next Arabian Gulf League match.
Meanwhile, the Pro League Committee used the Arabian Gulf Cup final between Al Ahli and Al Shabab at Al Maktoum Stadium on Saturday night as an opportunity to experiment with Video Assistant Referees (VAR) technology. The technology was tested throughout the 90 minutes without interfering on the match referee decisions.
The PLC had invited the UAE Football Association to attend the experiment through a specialised team from the UAEFA's refereeing department to oversee the technical aspects. Logistics and technological support were provided by the PLC in collaboration with "LIVE HD Production", the official broadcaster of PLC competitions. The initiative comes as part of the PLC's continuous efforts to develop all aspects of professional football in the Arabian Gulf League. The PLC is committed to provide logistic support for the referees to successfully officiate PLC organised matches with minimal impact on competing clubs by any refereeing decisions.
The Arabian Gulf Cup final offered a good opportunity for the PLC to test VAR technology. The experiment will be evaluated and a report will be submitted by the team to the concerned parties to assess the possibility of implementing the technology next season.
So also, the Pro League Committee presented winning fans with valuable watches courtesy of Mohammed Rasool Khoory and sons at the end of week-long competitions aired on "Roohak Riadiya" show on "Noor Dubai" radio station and on the PLC's social media channels "@AGLeague". The winners of the Arabian Gulf Cup history competitions received their prizes at Al Maktoum Stadium where the Arabian Gulf Cup final between Al Ahli and Al Shabab took place.
