Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) won the team title in the 3,000m road run in the Shaikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament, organised by the Dubai Sports Council.
Dubai Woman's Authority finished second overall and RTA ended up third. The team champions were rewarded with Dh10,000 the second placed contingent Dh8,000 and the third place finishers Dh6,000.
Nada Saleh of the Knowledge & Human Development Authority won gold and Dh6,000 in the individual championship, coming home in 14:49:42 minutes, followed by Soaad Abdulla of DEWA in 16 minutes, while her colleague Nada Khalid won bronze with a time of within 17:07:55. Soaad earned Dh4,000 and Nada Dh2,000.
The event offering Dh400,000 as prize money and other incentives, will end on Saturday Sept. 19 at the Dubai World Trade Center in the presence of top sports leaders and other public persons.
Nada said: "I am so pleased to get the title of this competition. The facilities were great and the advice and assistance before and after the race were of immense benefit."
Fatima Al Abdouli, coordinator of DEWA, said: "We are pleased to win the title of the road race competition of Shaikha Hind Women's Sports Tournament. We are proud to participate in all competitions of the Tournament."
The weekend also saw the beginning of the badminton, basketball, handball and volleyball competitions at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The swimming championships takes place at the Al Wasl Club Swimming Pool on Friday and the cycling event on Saturday at the Nad Al Sheba Cycling Racecourse.
