Al Wahda coach Javier Aguirre was pleased with the way his side fought back to earn a thrilling draw against Al Fujairah but said that they would have to tighten up their defence.
'The Maroons' were in danger of losing their Arabian Gulf Cup Group B fixture but Sebastian Tagliabue's hat trick saved the night.
Al Fujairah had taken an early lead through Hassan Maatouk but Tagliabue cancelled that out through a penalty. Patrick Friday Eze helped Al Fujairah retake the lead and then scored his second minutes later to give them a valuable cushion. But Tagliabue scored from the spot to rescue Al Wahda. The game ended with both teams down to 10 men.
"The experienced players in our team dealt well with the situation and managed to help us draw the game. But I was pleased with the way the young players performed. This competition is to give the opportunity for young players and I think they did well," said Aguirre.
Aguirre said that Al Wahda were prepared for a backlash from Al Fujairah after the latter were coming in this game on the back of a chastening 8-1 loss against Al Ahli. Aguirre was pleased with his team's attack but said that they have to rectify a few issues in defence.
"Al Fujairah were coming into this game after a loss against Al Ahli and we knew they will come hard at us. I'm comfortable with our offensive abilities but we have some problems in defence and we will have to work on that," the Mexican said. He also praised Tagliabue after the Argentine came up with a hat trick to help the side. "Tagliabue was brilliant. He scored from half chances and was ready physically and technically. He has the ambition to score goals. Ismail Matar too played well and so did the young player Khalid Bawazir."
