Badminton: Paralympics badminton takes off?in UAE

Para badminton, now part of the Paralympics, got off to a flying start in the UAE when the first ever workshop in the region for the sport was held at the Dubai Club for the Disabled by Shuttle Time Dubai, the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) appointed grassroots promotion programme here.
Badminton will appear for the first time at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, and the workshop was held as part of the BWF's goal to develop the discipline globally and integrate it into the badminton structures and systems at all levels.
Forty five trainees from the Dubai Club for the Disabled, Al Thiqah Disabled Club- Sharjah, Ajman Disabled Club, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Service, and Shuttle Time Dubai, undertook the two-day course under the guidance of two international para-badminton coaches, Fraser Michie and Katie Hall.
Michie is the coach of the Scotland Para-Badminton squad, and a former junior international. Hall is one of the coaches for the Team GB Para-Badminton squad leading up to Tokyo 2020.
Both Michie and Hall were highly impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the workshop attendees.The trainees completed theory and practical sessions focusing on the technical skills, movements and coaching implications of para-badminton, development and high performance.
Dubai Badminton Development manager Jaffer Ebrahim and Ghazi Al Madani of the UAE Badminton and Table tennis Association and manager, Sports Tourism, Dubai Sports Council, attended the session.
