Al Nasr and UAEFA seek clarifications from AFC

Wanderley was provisionally suspended by the AFC earlier this month pending a probe into his nationality

Al Nasr and the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) have sought clarifications from the AFC on various issues pertaining to Brazil-born striker Wanderley and the reversal of the first leg result of the AFC Champions League quarterfinal.
Wanderley had struck a brace in Al Nasr's 3-0 win against Qatar's El Jaish at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on August 24.
But Wanderley was provisionally suspended by the AFC earlier this month pending a probe into his nationality. The AFC said that they had received information that the Indonesian passport Wanderley held was forged or falsified.
"The Asian Football Confederation Disciplinary Committee has ordered the AFC Champions League quarterfinal first leg match El Jaish (Qatar) vs Al Nasr (UAE) on August 24, 2016, forfeited," the AFC had said in a statement.
"The Committee held, on the basis of information received from various state authorities and after analysing the case file that the Indonesian passport submitted to register Wanderley was false," the AFC added.
Al Nasr were also fined $1,000. The Blue Wave went on to lose the return leg at home 1-0.
Al Nasr who received backing from the UAEFA, issued a joint statement and asked the AFC to clarify on the subject.
The joint statement said that they were shocked and surprised by the AFC's decisions as well as the timing and raised questions on a number of issues.
"We were surprised by the issuance of the AFC's decision to reverse the 3-0 result which Al Nasr had won against Qatar's El Jaish on August 24," the statement read.
"Immediately after the decision, Al Nasr were quick to ask the AFC on the merits of the ruling but we are yet to receive any. We have a lot of questions about this," the statement added.
Al Nasr and the UAEFA also questioned the timing of the AFC Disciplinary Committee's decision to reverse the result as it came just 48 hours before the second leg. Al Nasr said that the timing of the decision had a negative impact on the team in the second leg.
The joint statement also put light on a number of technicalities and also added that there was no clear evidence from the AFC to show that Wanderley's passport was forged or falsified. Al Nasr said that they will continue all stages of litigation to save their rights.
