UAE clubs Al Nasr and Al Ain have been handed out fines for various instances by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Disciplinary Committee.
The Disciplinary Committee met at the AFC House in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur over two days on Wednesday and Thursday and took a number of decisions on a number of infringements.
Al Nasr have been ordered to pay a total of $12,500 for different violations, while inaugural AFC Champions League winners Al Ain have been handed a fine of $20,000. The violations occurred during the group stages at the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League in April and May.
First up, Al Nasr were ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 for violating Article 14.3 of the AFC Champions League 2016 Regulations regarding Duration of Matches during their Group A fixture against Uzbekistan's Lokomotiv at the Al Maktoum Stadium on April 20.
Article 14.3 states that 'a participating club that causes a delay in the commencement of the first period of the Match and/or the second period of the Match may be sanctioned by the AFC Disciplinary Committee.'
Al Nasr have also been ordered to pay fines of $1,000 for violating Article 68.1 of the AFC Disciplinary Code during their Round of 16 fixture against Iran's Tractorsazi Tabriz at the Al Maktoum Stadium on May 17. Article 68.1 of the AFC Disciplinary Code is regarding the Liability for Spectator Conduct and explains that 'improper conduct undertaken by spectators is an offence.'
Al Nasr have also been fined $5000 for the same match for violating Article 67.1 of the AFC Disciplinary Code regarding Organisation of Matches. Article 67.1 states that 'Any Member Association or Club that fails to fulfil any of its obligations relating to the organisation of Matches has committed an offence.'
The Blue Wave have also been ordered to pay $5000 for violating Article 51.1.4 of the AFC Disciplinary Code during the same match against Tractorsazi Tabriz, relating to 'Bringing the game to disrepute.' Article 51.1.4 states that 'whose conduct brings the game into disrepute in any other way, has committed an offence.'
Meanwhile, Al Ain have been fined $20,000 for violating Article 68.1 read together with Article 67.1 of the AFC Disciplinary Code which relates to Liability for Spectator Conduct and Organisation of Matches, respectively, during their Group D fixture against Uzbekistan's Nasaf at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on May 3.
The AFC said that both the clubs should settle the fines within 30 days from the date that these decision are communicated in accordance with Article 11.3 of the Code. The clubs have also been informed that a repeat violation of this provision will be met with more severe punishment.
Al Nasr and Al Ain are in the quarterfinals of the AFC Champions League and take on Qatar's El Jaish and Lokomotiv respectively in August.
