Tellicherry shock Emirates

(KT Report) / 14 March 2012

DUBAI - CTK Mashood trumped with a match winning all-round performance to help Nucaf Tellicherry shock Fly Emirates by 4 runs in the opening game of the Blenheim Champions Trophy conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council and sponsored by Blenheim Energy for A division teams.

Mashood first bolstered the Tellicherry innings with an important contribution of 39 runs to steer his team to a fighting total of 223 runs and them bowled well to prise out two wickets for 34 runs to help his team beat the top side in the opening game of the tournament.

During the drinks break sponsors Priya and Neeraj Ramamoorthy were introduced to both the teams on the opening day while the match was reduced to 47 overs per side due to mal-functioning of one of the flood-light tower.

Tellicherry lost Nashwan early who was picked up by Fawad Syed but Prajakat Chauhan and skipper Krishna Chandra then played sedately to take their team to 56 runs in 12 overs when Krishna 17, was run-out by Saby Fernandes. Prajakat was the second batsman to be run-out by Javed when on 39 runs in which he hit three fours.

The middle order slumped but Syed Maqsood coming at number seven then exhibited his class with a patient knock of 60 runs in 80 balls hitting only two boundaries to keep Tellicherry innings afloat until he was bowled by Yasin Sikander who also picked up Renjith. Mashood with a run ball knock of 34 runs and Rejee Mohan with a quick fire 22 runs including the only six of the game steered Tellicherry to a good score of 223 runs.

In reply Fly Emirates had a good start with Shaheer and Mohammed Imran putting on 31 quick runs until Imran was bowled by Renjith.

Left arm spinner Mashood then coming in as first change dealt a double strike bowling Shaheer through the gate and then had Lalith plumb in front of the wicket to have the airmen in a spot of bother at 58 runs for three wickets.

Saby Fernandes then found a perfect ally in skipper Nigel Fernandes as the pair took control of the game to put on 111 runs for the fourth wicket. Pravin Achuthan then picked up Nigel who made 49 runs with five boundaries to put their foot in the door with this opportunity. A double strike on the same score by Prajakat and Pravin saw Fly Emirates lose Kevin and a well set Saby also depart while  Javed was LBW to Pravin to see  Fly Emirates slump from 58 for three to 171 for seven.

Rehan Adil then tried his best making a run a ball to keep his team’s hopes alive but Fawad’s run-out, the third of their innings put pressure on Rehan who fell to Krishna Chandra to see Nucaf Tellicherry win the game four runs with only two balls to spare.
