Sunday, April 3 was a red letter day for the Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.
A day after the Festival penetrated the famous Santa Anita Park racecourse to stage the first-ever Grade I, $100,000 Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Award Stakes for Purebred Arabian horses, the organisation headed by Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, was commended by the California State Senate.
The Resolution was passed on Saturday, April 2 by the Honourable Kevin de Leon, President pro Tempore of the California State Senate commending the efforts of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and the Santa Anita Park - which since December 26, 1934 has established itself as a premier venue for racing in California as well as in the USA - for their support to Arabian racing and jockeys worldwide.
The race was held as part of the Festival's Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Awards.
The Senate Resolution said: "It is appropriate to draw the attention of the public to the special racing event - the Grade I, $100,000 Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Award Stakes for Arabian-bred older horses which was held on Saturday, April 2 and won by Thess Is Awesome.
"The Santa Anita Park and the Shaikh Mansour Festival be commended for their promotion and long-term support of jockeys as world-class athletes and of the Arabian breed as a world-class equine athlete, and extended best wishes for their continued success," the Resolution read.
The California State Senate Resolution also highlighted the role of Shaikh Mansour Festival in promotion of Arabian racing and in dedicating its support to jockeys.
The Shaikh Mansour Festival had presented a cheque for $100,000 to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) on Saturday in a Winner's Circle ceremony prior to the $100,000 Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Award Stakes at Santa Anita.
The Resolution said: "The Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley Award Stakes race is part of the over 100 events in 81 countries hosted by Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival."
