Veronica Aske had a great start to her new career after the AECV's handler saddled Latifa Princess to win the first running of the Wathba Stud Farm Cup (for private owners only) under Sam Hitchcott at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Racecourse on Friday.
"This is my first runner and I was very nervous," the former lady jockey and assistant trainer said. "Now, I can put my shoulders down," she added.
"Latifa Princess is a good mare and she was suited by the five furlongs. It's her best trip and hopefully she will continue to impress in her future starts.
"I would like to thank the owner and breeder of the mare Faisal Al Mutawa who has been very supportive to me," she concluded.
Early in the evening, Tadhg O'Shea rode a quick double in the opening and second races. The former champion jockey partnered I'Telaf to an easy win in the 1,800m TB Handicap Emirates Martyrs Cup for his boss Ali Rashid Al Raihe to beat hot favourite Arabian Skies (Ismail Mohammed/ Pat Dobbs) in what could be described as a two-horse race.
Later, O'Shea teamed up with Al Jazira's handler Nacer Samiri to bring top weight Haizoom home in the 1,400m PA Rated Maiden.
O'Shea was engaged into a head-to-head battle against Al Harth (Khalifa Al Neyadi/ Hector Crouch) in the concluding stages before his mount got up to drop her head across the line.
The top Irish jockey completed a treble in the sixth race when he partnered Cloe Du Faust to a splendid win for trainer Eric Lemartinel in the silks of The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In the meantime, Samiri saddled a double after Haajeb did everything right to win the 1,600 PA Handicap Jebel Hafeet fourth race on the card, before Gerald Avranche led a 1-2 finish for the stables of The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, astride RB Inferno for trainer Eric Lemartinel in the 1,400m PA Handicap subsequent event.
In the final race, the 1600m Al Hili PA Maiden, Jose Santiago powered Eskandar to glory to complete a treble for the Moroccan trainer Nacer Samiri I the distinguished colours of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
