Ahead of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, Cheyenne Woods had spoken about taking her famous surname as a blessing rather than a curse and that sure seems to have worked out well for the American.
A tied 20th finish with five-under in her only previous appearance here in Dubai two years ago, Cheyenne Woods, the niece of the legendary Tiger Woods, almost came close to bettering that in one day.
The 26-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona fired a four-under to be tied second after the first round of the Ladies European Tour's (LET) Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at the Majlis Course of the Emirates Golf Club on Thursday.
Woods was four-under through six holes on Wednesday when play was suspended after caddie Maximilian Zechmann's death.
But, despite a tragic day, Woods managed to keep it all together and took the turn at five-under. She started her back nine impressively with back-to-back birdies to take the lead at seven-under. But then, a bogey as well as a double bogey blotted what was an otherwise stellar round.
Nonetheless, Woods was pleased with how it panned out.
"I thought I played really well. I picked up where I left off yesterday (Wednesday), so it was a great feeling to know that I still had the game," Woods said after her round on Thursday.
"I struggled a little bit coming in but overall I'm happy with how I played and where my game is at," she added.
And Woods, who has one win on the LET, said that it was a solid round despite that double bogey on the par-4 eighth.
"That was not very good. It was ugly," Woods said about the double bogey.
"Despite that, I thought I played a really solid round. I hit the ball well and gave myself a lot of chances for birdies and my putter felt great, so I'm really happy with today," she added.
Woods also said that she was reading the greens pretty well.
"I have a really good vision when I'm out there. I can really see the breaks and feel them. I struggled a little bit with speed towards the end of the round but overall I loved the greens out here and they are in great shape and I'm really rolling the ball well," said Woods.
And she would be using this solid start as a springboard for the remainder of the tournament.
"I feel like I'm in a great position and I think I can do even better tomorrow (Friday). So, I'm looking forward to it," she said.
"I'll assess my round. I kind of know where I can improve. So, I'm going to try and improve in those certain areas. I left a few shots out there and I think I'll be able to maybe make them up," she added.

A NEW PERSPECTIVE
Cheyenne Woods revealed that after the tragic events of Wednesday, it gave her a bit of perspective and she said that she was just thankful to be able to be here on Thursday and to be able to play golf.
"I think everybody was in a little bit of shock. It's really hard to even go do anything after something tragic like that happens. I really just went back to the room and rested and went to the gym for a little bit and had a nice dinner with my caddie, but really nothing more than that. It's hard to really get out and do much. It puts a lot of perspective, so I'm just thankful to be able to be here today and to be able to play golf," said Woods.
