Al Nasr coach Dan Petrescu has said that he would like to remain with the Blue Wave but added that it was up to the club to decide on his future.
The former Chelsea winger was installed as the new manager last October after Ivan Jovanovic was axed following a poor run of results. And although the Romanian didn't have a fully fit squad at his disposal, Petrescu has managed to save a season which was threatening to go haywire.
Al Nasr are on the cusp of silverware with the Blue Wave making it to the final of the prestigious President's Cup. They are currently sixth in the Arabian Gulf League standings, with three fixtures left in the season.
Petrescu's contract is set to run out in the summer and it remains to be seen if the 49-year-old will get a contract extension at the Al Maktoum Stadium. If his contract isn't extended, the President's Cup final against Al Wahda, most likely on May 18, could be his last game with the Blue Wave.
Petrescu showed interest in continuing his association with the club but said it was upto the club.
"You have to ask the club. For me, I want to stay but the club will decide," Petrescu said after his side saw off Hatta in the President's Cup semifinal at the Zabeel Stadium on Thursday night.
Petrescu's body of work perhaps merits an extension, especially considering the obstacles the club faced this season. The club were languishing close to the bottom of the table after some poor results. And added to that, ace striker Wanderley's passport controversy didn't help matters. He was in and out of the side following bans by the AFC and later the UAE Football Association.
Al Nasr were also dealt a blow with Wanderley getting injured during the closing stages of the campaign.
"If you look at when I arrived, how many problems I had and the results, I think they're not bad. In the other Cup (Arabian Gulf Cup), we played very good, we were unlucky. In the League, we had some good results, some not so good. But if you look, every match I have had five or six players missing. So, considering that, it has been a decent season," said Petrescu.
