A sports fan, who was guilty of insulting a sports club over the social media, has been fined Dhs 250,000 on Monday.
The Abu Dhabi Misdemeanors' court convicted the man of posting abusive comments over the social networking website 'Twitter' against a sports club. He also attached a photo that humiliated the name and stature of the sports club, which is not being named.
The convict was ordered to pay the court charges as well.
According to court records, the Abu Dhabi public prosecution received a complaint from the sports club - the plaintiff - claiming that the accused had posted tweets cursing the club and its followers.
The accused admitted in court that he had posted those tweets but denied he had intended to offend the club.
