Watching him from the VIP box was his wife Sania Mirza who too jumped for joy. The Indian tennis queen was there to cheer her husband on in his farewell Test match.
Sania has been travelling and winning tournaments all over the world. She recently won the season-ending WTA Finals title in Singapore along with Martina Hingis to make it her ninth title of the year.
With such a busy schedule she may have missed her hubby's heroics when he scored his career-best knock of 245 in the first innings of the first Test against England in Abu Dhabi and claimed his career-best bowling figures of 4 for 33 in the first innings of the third Test in Sharjah.
But she was there in person when her better half foxed England's best batsman Cook as he drew him out of his crease and beat him with his orthodox spin to give wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed an easy stumping.
It was a moment Shoaib and Sania will cherish for the rest of their lives as it was also Shoaib's last Test wicket.
However, when journalists approached Sania for a few sound-bites she turned down one and all. A few words on her husband's retirement and his achievements wouldn't have mattered we thought, unless she thought otherwise.
