The scene at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday relived memories of the days when hordes of spectators thronged the venue whenever arch-rivals India and Pakistan took to the field.
By hosting some of the Pakistan Super League matches at this oldest and most iconic cricket stadium in the UAE, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has done its cricket lovers, mostly Pakistanis, a very big favour.
One had to see the long serpentine queues before the 3.30pm match to believe that people, who are starved of some good cricket here, were willing to shell out money to watch their favourite players like Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle, Shane Watson and the likes.

Comparing the sold-out crowd to the India-Pakistan matches, he said, it reminded him of Sachin Tendulkar's 'Desert Storm' knock in 1998.
Mazhar said it was a pity that some spectators without tickets had to return home but in the same vein added that he is hoping the remaining matches too in Sharjah will generate the same response.
"I think it is as big as when we hosted some IPL matches."
