In-form batsman Babar Azam and all-rounder Muhammad Nawaz have been given the nod by Pakistan national cricket selectors for the 14-member squad for the first Test against the West Indies in Dubai from October 13.
Veteran skipper Misbah-ul-Haq will not have the services of another veteran - Younis Khan - who is indisposed. On Saturday, national selection committee chairman and former great Inzamam-ul-Haq told Geo News in Karachi: "Younis has been advised a rest of 10 days by the doctors and he will be back to the squad once fully recovered, I'm sure he will be back before the second Test."
Experienced opening batsman and allrounder Mohammad Hafeez, who failed to score in the warmup game for the PCB Patron's XI on Friday, still finds himself in the wilderness.
Also out of the reckoning for the moment are Shan Masood, Ahmed Shahzad and Adnan Akmal who scored half centuries against the Windies at Sharjah cricket Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
Inzamam added: "This is our home series, we don't need to send 16 to 17 players for the entire tour, these 14 are for the first Test and other players who aren't considered for the first Test can make comeback for the remaining matches.
"Our domestic season is underway, why to send two three extra players to sit only on bench? I would prefer them to play the matches of Quaid e Azam trophy to remain in match practice," the chief selector added.
The former captain said Nawaz is included because of his decent record in first class cricket and his batting ability is an advantage. "I have seen his record, he is also a very promising batsman and can fill the space of a batting allrounder in the team," he continued. "Babar has proved his potential as a good batsman and selection committee has agreed that this player should be groomed in all the formats."

Squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Azhar Ali, Sami Aslam, Asad Shafiq, Babar Zaman, Mohammad Nawaz, Sarfraz Ahmed, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Amir, Imran Khan, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Zulfiqar Babar, Rahat Ali
