Students, staff members and volunteers from Amity University have distributed 11,000 gift packets to workers at the construction site of its new campus in Academic City as part of a Ramadan charity drive.
The event was an opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with labourers, much to their delight and that of the participants.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Student Development Department at the university and students, reached out to thank almost 1,000 blue-collared workers who, in actuality, operate as the silent architects of Dubai. Operating under Amity Cares, an initiative launched by Amity University Dubai, the endeavour witnessed their biggest outreach to make life worth it - for one and all.
"These people do a lot for us, and the 'Ramadan Charity Drive' was a fantastic platform to intermingle with the workers and express our gratitude," said Rajat Singh, a final year postgraduate student and volunteer.
The university-wide initiative started off as a small idea, but soon spiraled and the extraordinary response only fuelled the drive to reach out to as many workers as possible.
"I never thought the campaign would gain such momentum. The support and donations we received from everyone has been overwhelming and extremely encouraging," expressed Nowsheen and Munawwar, organisers of the campaign.
The act of gratitude witnessed over 100 student volunteers pledge their time and energy to collect, pack and hand out 'care packages'. Distributions were carried out in two shifts at the site to ensure workers from both, the morning and evening shifts, received the packets. - reporters@khaleejtimes.com
