Over 250 traffic accidents were recorded in Dubai on the first day of Ramadan, the police have revealed. Two of these accidents were major and resulted in serious injuries to two motorists. The rest of the accidents were minor.
The police control room in the emirate received 2,419 calls on Monday.
Major Khazraz Majid Al Kharzaji, director of command and control room of the Dubai Police, said majority of the calls were received between 2.30pm to 7.30pm.
He warned that reckless driving and speeding just before Iftar time are posing a risk to road users' life. Failure to leave enough space between vehicles and inattentive driving are also among the main causes for accidents.
Major Al Kharzaji called on drivers to abide by traffic laws and to drive carefully.
Residents should exercise restraint and behave better in the Holy Month of Ramadan, he said.
