Maximising export of goods and services

THE Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), a corporate body established under a Presidential Ordinance, is dedicated to the holistic development and promotion of goods and services for exports globally. TDAP in this enhanced responsibility and role is creating direct linkages with stakeholders, local and abroad, aiming for a Quantum Leap’ in exports.
TDAP, a body corporate established under a Presidential Ordinance, is mandated to become a dedicated, effective and empowered organisation that is professionally managed, remains strongly marketing in nature; not only marketing goods and services of Pakistan but also servicing business image and profile of the country. It is successor organisation of Export Promotion Bureau.The Authority’s fundamental considerations for change include first and foremost intense, focused relevance to needs and priorities of stakeholders, Pakistan’s future socio-economic needs, Pakistan’s unique strengths and weaknesses as an exporting country, best world practices of trade development, state-of-the -art management and governance, leveraging existing best expertise, human resources. In its functioning and delivery of facilitation, TDAP is governed by values of customer focus, result and service orientation, besides being proactive, innovative, aggressive and clearly transparent.

It will develop and promote exports holistically, through focus, synergy, with collective wisdom and counsel of its stakeholders. It will achieve the objective of rapid export growth through interaction and coordination with respective government and non-government stakeholders to achieve in Pakistan, for its products and services, a clear sense of direction and prioritisation.
Enhanced capability and capacity of supply base of goods and services; fostering a supportive export culture and facilitation, will encourage enhanced export oriented foreign investment and joint ventures. TDAP would also help improve market access through advising the Goverment on matters of trade diplomacy, leading, promoting business image in key export markets for Pakistan products and services the world over.

It’s mandate is also to maximise exports. This remit will be more holistic than simple export promotion. With right skill, competencies, state-of-art management techniques, assistance of targeted research and fact-based marketing approach, use of technology and proactive result oriented initiatives will help achieve desired action and facilitation required for success of exporters. it will be an ISO Certified organisation with structured processes to deliver quality assured and speedy services to key stakeholders.The general direction and administration of TDAP has been vested in a 27-member Board, with key 15 public and 12 private sector members, constituted under chairmanship of Commerce Minister. It is supreme decision making body having power to supervise, control, direct and regulate affairs of Authority, whose core values are based on Accountability, Transparency and Empowerment of its people to achieve results agreed upon and have their performance appraised against those goals for identifying success.

TDAP is required to recommend to its Board a national policy for maximising export of goods and services from Pakistan by working through Sectoral Committees that would allow the Authority to backward integrate and help organise supply base. Advisory and Facilitation Committees will facilitate exporters capabilities, capacities, to achieve synergy in exports development at national level by forging effective liaisons with private and public stakeholders. Most critically doing, and causing to be done, all aspects that relate to global marketing, promotion of goods and services exports from Pakistan, over medium term, to achieve a quantum leap in exports within five years from completion of seamless transformation process initiated. The Authority reflects provisions of a diverse makeup commensurate with new vision and takes into consideration the role of marketing, supply chain management, research, export finance service and state-of-the -art technology for management of the organisation and stakeholder interaction. The Economic Reforms Agenda of the government expects exports to make a greater contribution to the GDP by achieving a quantum leap. For successful export promotion it is vital that product supply chain is strengthened specially to add value. An autonomous body, TDAP is espousing to the planning and development of exports with major thrust behind aggressive marketing of Pakistan and its products. it aspires for export contribution to be enhanced from 13 per cent to 15 per cent of GDP in the short term. Market access is vital to export growth. Whilst this will be achieved by Commerce Ministry, Authority will have strong advisory role for both the government and private sector, followed by ensuring maximisation of exports through such access with aggressive marketing. The intensive process of transforming EPB into TDAP is expected to take between 18-24 months when the Authority is expected to have seamlessly succeeded EPB in year 2008.
