A Dubai expat, who had lost her dog four years ago, was recently reunited with him with the help of authorities and the power of social media.
According to a facebook post by 'k9 friends' - a shelter that rescues abandoned dogs in Dubai - Almen had lost her pet dog Rikky four years ago after he disappeared while being looked after the neighbours.
Earlier this week, the shelter posted a picture on facebook of a dog handed over to them by the Dubai Municipality- after which Almen immediately contacted the k9, hoping that it was her lost dog Rikky.
"Its microchip number matched with Rikky's, and an emotional reunion followed," Helen Bragger, K9 Friend's manager told ARN News.
The adorable dog was delighted to see his owner.
K9 friends recounted the emotional reunion in their facebook post:

'HAPPY DAY!!
What an amazing morning we had at K9 Friends today. It's days like today that make what we do so rewarding.
6 years ago Almen arrived in Dubai with her dog Rikky in dramatic style. Rikky had opened his crate in the hold of the plane and escaped. Dubai airport was closed for several hours whilst Rikky was rounded up and returned to his owners . Tragically, 4 years ago Rikki disappeared when he was being looked after by neighbours. Almen never gave up hope that one day her dog would return to her but despite extensive searches there was no sign of him. Then, two days ago we reposted a picture of Dusty who had been given to us by Dubai Municipality and had been in our shelter for over 4 months.
Almen immediately contacted us hoping that this was her Rikky. The microchip numbers matched and when the two were reunited there was no doubt that Rikky/Dusty remembered his owner . He was delighted to see her and the two of them treated us to a polish song . Dusty/Rikky is now safely home with his mum . Who knows where he was between disappearing 4 years ago and his arrival at the Dubai Municipality, however one thing is for sure... never give up hope if you lose a pet, as amazing things can happen!'
