The Dubai Municipality on Sunday announced a ban on a Chinese product being sold in the emirate.

In a post on Instagram, the authority said a product named 'Natural Chinese medicine magic slim' has been banned in the 'local market'.

The ban came into effect on August 12, the post said.

The announcement comes barely a week after the UAE ministry of climate change and environment issued a warning prohibiting the import of Japanese Kikkoman soy sauce due to its alcohol content.

The ministry also banned the circulation of the product in the UAE market in accordance with ministerial resolution No (539) of 2012 on the Standard Guide to the Procedures for the Prohibition of Handling and Banning of Food.

"The decision was based on the results of the tests conducted by specialized accredited laboratories, which confirmed that several samples of the product with different production dates violated the rules," informed sources told Khaleej Times.
