RTA's Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) has reduced the number of accidents sustained by its taxi's last year, the best safety record so far since 2009, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) posted on its official twitter account on Monday.

"The result is attributed to a series of programs and initiatives contributing to traffic safety in Dubai which have reduced the taxi accident rate from 0.61 accidents per 100 thousand km in 2009 to 0.23 accidents per 100 thousand km in 2016," RTA said.
"The figure achieved looks pretty good when benchmarked against the prevailing rate of taxi accidents in Singapore, which is deemed as one of the best countries in terms of transportation safety at 0.2 accidents per 100 thousand km," RTA added.
The DTC said it has introduced a package of traffic safety programs, initiatives and projects, including the introduction of Brake Plus system in DTC taxi's.
It has also put a 120 km/h speed cap on highways to all DTC taxi's and identified geographical spots witnessing recurrent accidents to analyse the causes and introduce remedial measures.
Meanwhile, DTC said it will launch a driver monitoring system via on board cameras to spot events of declining attentiveness or sudden sleeping of taxi drivers to avoid potential accidents.
