UAE has declared a holiday on Sunday, April 23, to mark 'Al Israa Wal Miraaj'. Work will resume on Monday, April 24.
The holiday -- for both public and private sectors -- was announced today by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
A circular issued by the federal human resources authority stated that the decision is in implementation of the provisions of Paragraph 5 of Article 100 of the Cabinet Resolution No.13 of 2012 and regulations of the Decree of Federal Law No.11 of 2008 on human resources in the federal government and its amendments, which defines the public holidays of ministries and federal authorities in the country.
The article allows shifting of official holidays to the beginning or end of the week if they fall between two working days. Accordingly, the 'Al Israa Wal Miraaj' holiday was moved from Monday, April 24 to Sunday, April 23. Therefore, those who have Friday-Saturday off will get a break on Sunday, while those who have only Fridays as off days will enjoy the official holiday on Saturday.
The holiday for the private sector was announced in a circular by Saqr bin Ghubash Saeed Ghubash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
