A woman who was convicted of sexually abusing her friend has had her six months jail sentence confirmed.
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld an earlier ruling by the Appellant Court, which handed down the sentence to the Arab woman after she was found guilty of sexually abusing another woman and insulting her.
Official court documents stated that the woman went to the victim's house, which is located in one of the northern emirates along with her friend who was visiting the victim. The woman reportedly kissed the victim and also hugged in an inappropriate manner which violated her sanctity.
The victim complained to authorities about the sexual abuse stressing that the pair also insulted her. She said she was surprised by the woman's indecent acts.
The victim said her friend, who allegedly took the defendant in her house, just watched as she was being abused sexually and insulted.
Prosecutors charged the woman with sexually abusing the victim and insulting her. Her friend was charged with assisting the first defendant in the crime when she went along with her to the victim and watched as she abused her sexually, which violated her sanctity.
The First Instance Court had earlier given each of the women one year in jail but pair challenged the sentences to the Appellant Court, which reduced the jail sentence to six months. The first defendant then appealed to UAE's top court, which has maintained the sentence by the Appellant Court.
