A 33-year-old woman was conned out of Dh300,000 by her alleged fiancée after the man convinced her that he was going to use the money to finish their marital home.
The 36-year-old Arab man told the woman, who reportedly has a good job in Al Ain, that he wanted to complete the house first so they could get married quickly. He also promised that he would pay back her money.
Official court documents stated that the pair met on social media before the man allegedly proposed.  The Arab woman said the man also showed her pictures of the villa that was under-construction.
The excited woman handed him the cash and also gave him a car worth Dh250,000 which they would use during their marriage.
And three weeks after receiving the cash and the car from the woman, the man stoped communicating with her.
The woman said that the man was also not answering her phone calls and never responded to her messages.
She then decided to file a complaint against him to the authorities requesting that they force him return her money and car. Investigations revealed that the man, who was already married and had four children, had lied to the woman about his personal life.
Prosecutors charged the man with lying to the woman and taking her money and car under false pretense.
The Al Ain Misdemeanour Court has issued a ruling obliging the man to pay back the money he borrowed from the woman. He was also ordered to return her car.
