A hotel manager, who sexually harassed an employee in the meeting room, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
The 50-year-old Sri Lankan man was reported to Al Barsha police station on December 12, 2017.
He denied earlier a sexual harassment charge in the Court of First Instance. But he was found guilty and will be deported after serving his jail term.
The Filipina complainant, 37, said she went to the room at the hotel after the staff meeting was over.
“I brought with me the formal staff costume to show it to the manager. As I was about to leave after that, I was approached by the defendant, who placed his hand on my back,” the woman said.
“He said ‘I thought you had resigned’ while his hand was still on my back. He then groped me twice. I got scared and left instantly for my office. I informed my manager about it and then filed a complaint at Al Barsha police station.”
Another employee, a 45-year-old Pakistani, confirmed the woman’s accusations.
“We were in the meeting room when I saw the accused touching the complainant. She suddenly walked away from him and went to her office,” the witness told the prosecutor.
