An Emirati government employee has gone on trial for forging a sick leave note to take a break from work. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance heard that the Emirati man submitted a sick leave note to the human resources (HR) department, claiming that he was ill and wanted some days off duty.
After some time, the HR department checked with the hospital to verify the sick note, but found out that it was forged. The hospital authorities denied that the sick leave was issued by their doctor, saying they did not have it on their records.
The management registered a complaint with the authorities concerned about the incident. Prosecutors charged the man with forging an official document.
The Emirati denied the charge when he appeared in court, claiming he had "no idea the document was a forged one".
He insisted that he was ill and had obtained the sick leave from the hospital.
The trial was adjourned till June 14.
