A RAK charity society employee accused of siphoning off Dh100,000 from donation boxes is standing trial in the Ras Al Khaimah criminal court.
The court records show that a local charity association lodged a complaint with the RAK Police against one of its staff, an Arab, alleging that he was involved in embezzlement of money over a period of time.
"He used duplicate keys of the society's charity boxes installed across the emirate, opened them, and embezzled several amounts of the donations raised," they told the police.
Internal investigations showed that the suspect abused his position and power to have access to these charity boxes, they added.
"He also used the vehicles and charity bags of the society so that he can dupe us of Dh100,00."
The RAK police summoned the suspect, interrogated him, and referred him to court where he is facing charges.
