A prosecution witness has described how the headless body of a Filipina domestic helper was discovered in the Dubai desert, which led to the arrest of the killer, three months after the murder.
Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance heard that the Filipino butcher had killed his aunt in Musaffah area of Abu Dhabi over a debt of Dh10,000, which she had lent him to arrange his travel to the UAE for work. After killing her, the man dumped the body parts in the desert areas of Dubai and Ajman to cover up his crime.
The victim, Manormeeta Salwaro Dadi, worked as a domestic helper for a family in Abu Dhabi.   The murder was discovered on May 27, 2016 when a Dubai Municipality cleaner informed the police about finding a headless body in a highly decomposed state.
And on Thursday, a prosecution witness, the Deputy Director of the CID at Dubai Police, told the court that the decomposed body of the Filipina woman was found in a very deserted place in Al Warqa'a on Academy City Road in September last year.
"The headless body of the woman was found under a tree and in a very quiet place where there were no passers-by," said the officer. "I rushed to the scene after getting information about a highly decomposed body that has been discovered in the desert. The investigation team removed the body and it was taken for forensic examination."
The officer said the woman's other body parts were found buried in a desert in Ajman. He added: "And through our secret sources after the investigation team identified the murdered woman, police obtained permission and arrested the man suspected of killing the woman."
"We arrested the suspect from his residence in Abu Hail area of Dubai."
Police investigations suggested that the defendant had borrowed Dh10,000 from the victim and killed her when she demanded her money back. The officer told court that during his interrogations, the man admitted to killing his aunt. The man told Dubai Police that he took a cleaver and a knife from his home and drove his friend's car to Abu Dhabi where he met the woman.
"He said he had convinced the woman to get into the car and then drove her to a deserted area in Musaffah area as the pair argued over the money," said the police officer. "He said he stabbed her multiple times in different parts of her body until the woman died."
The man then covered the woman's body with a towel, wiped the blood splattered on the windshield and drove back to Dubai with the body. When he reached Dubai, he cut off her head and hands, burnt them and took them to a sandy area in Ajman where he buried them. The Filipina, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of premeditated murder when he appeared in court.
The trial was adjourned until May 23 so the court can contact the victim's family and see if they pardon the killer in return for blood money. ismail@khaleejtimes.com
