Fast bowlers Tim Southee and James Neesham ran through India's middle order to help New Zealand to a 19-run series-levelling win in the fourth one-day international in Ranchi on Wednesday.
Southee (3-40) and Neesham (2-38) shared five wickets between them to bowl out India, who were in pursuit of their 261-run target, for 241 runs in 48.4 overs.
The fifth and final game of the series is slated for Saturday in Visakhapatnam.
India were very much in the game when Ajinkya Rahane (57) and Virat Kohli (45) were at the crease. But New Zealand had the upper hand when Kohli fell to leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and Rahane was dismissed by Neesham.

The writing was on the wall for India when wkipper MS Dhoni (11) was bowled by Neesham.
Axar patel (38) tried hard, but regular fall of wickets at the other hand put New Zealand on top.
The margin of defeat could have been bigger for India if not a 34-run last wicket partnership between Dhawal Kulkarni (25 not out) and Umesh yadav (7).

Earlier, New Zealand posted 260 for seven.
Opener Martin Guptill top-scored with a gritty 72 after the visitors elected to bat first while leg-spinner Amit Mishra led the Indian bowling charge with impressive figures of 2-41.
Indian bowlers managed to restrict New Zealand after the Kiwi openers had given them a flying start.
The Indians fought back to restrict the visitors, thanks to leg-spinner Mishra .
Skipper Kane Williamson (41) was dismissed by Mishra. All-rounder James Neesham (6) also lost his wicket to Mishra.
Hardik Pandya had earlier removed Guptill and Latham had fallen to Axar Patel.
Earlier, New Zealand, desperate to stay alive in the series, won the toss and elected to bat.
New Zealand are playing three spinners - Ish Sodhi, Anton Devcich and Mitchell Santner - as skipper Kane Williamson is hoping the pitch will offer help to their slow bowlers.
