The speed limit on both directions from Umm Al Quwain to Falaj Al Mualla and back has been reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h, UAQ Police reminded motorists earlier this week.
"A grace speed of 20km/h is still permitted, however," they added. "This means any vehicle running on a speed of 101km/ph will be fined."
However, the reduced speed is only enforceable on curves, they explained. "This means that the speed limit shall remain unchanged (100km/h) on none-curve parts of the road."
The maximum speed limit, including the additional 20km/h grace speed, shall be 121km/ph, they pointed out.
The police urge all road users to observe traffic rules and regulations for their safety. "The reduced speed on curves is meant to protect road users' life and ensure their safety in view of the recent deadly traffic accidents."
Recently, a 23-year-old Emirati young man succumbed to fatal injuries he received after the motorbike he was riding veered off the road and turned over several times at the Green Belt area in Umm Al Quwain.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Arran, director general of the traffic and patrols department of the UAQ police, blamed the fatal mishap on high speed.
"The victim, identified only as A.A., was riding his motorbike at a high speed when suddenly lost control over it and turned over several times," he said. "The young man tried to regain control over his motorbike, but to no avail."
"All drivers are urged to observe speed limits, take extra care at curves and U-turns, never enter a main road without checking if it was clear, and always buckle up when driving."
