Take a 'mini walk' around Abu Dhabi and spread a word about the WALK 2015, which is entering its ninth year this November.
The Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (Haad) urged the public to join the event, post videos and images using the #WalkWithMeUAE to help foster a sense of community spirit and support those thinking of making a change to their diet and exercise routines.
'#WalkWithMeUAE' programme consists of a main walk at Yas Marina Circuit on November 13 to coincide with World Diabetes Day, and a series of community-based activities across Abu Dhabi in the next two months.
According to the latest data, nearly 20 per cent of the Abu Dhabi population is diabetic, and almost an equal percentage is pre-diabetic.
Experts say a short, brisk 30-minute walk every day will make a substantial difference to people's lifestyles and body weight.
The Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC) has teamed up with Haad to launch the WALK 2015 programme to help residents manage health issues associated with diabetes.
The event will be held under the patronage of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak and is organised by ICLDC in partnership with HAAD and supported by ICLDC's Mubadala sister health care facilities, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and Healthpoint.
Individuals, groups of friends or corporate teams are encouraged to bring along their friends and colleagues to make #WalkWithMeUAE a huge success.
Free #WalkWithMeUAE T-shirts will also be distributed at the five locations throughout the eight-week programme.
