You may soon be able to commute between Dubai and Fujairah in a mind boggling 10 minutes. or less! An upcoming event by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) will see Hyperloop link project designs which could just realise this transportation vision.
As part of its Future Partners programme, DFF has announced it will host the 'Build Earth Live' contest for Hyperloop Designs, in September 2016. The 48-hour contest will introduce the latest technology in Hyperloop transportation designs, and is organised by Asite, the construction and transport solutions experts.

Over a 100 participants - from various engineering and scientific international enterprises - have enrolled in teams. Only six teams will get to present their projects to the evaluation judges - made up of a committee of global judges - in the finals.

WHAT IS HYPERLOOP?
Hyperloop is a system that integrates a low-pressure pipe linking two stations, enabling passenger capsules to travel at high speeds of up to 1200 km per hour within the pipe. The technology is capable of reducing the travel time between places as distant as New York and Beijing to just two hours. Experts say the cost of building a single Hyperloop tube will be just 10 per cent of that of conventional high speed trains.
Mohammed Al Gergawi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of DFF, said: "Dubai is hosting this global event as part of the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This contest is a great opportunity to explore innovation ideas in the smart transportation sector."
Al Gergawi noted that future transportation solutions will effectively change people's everyday lives and functioning, especially the way they work and commute. This is in addition to the current technological revolution seen in 3D printing, self-driving vehicles, and robotics. "This will eventually lead to massive global economic growth, and we aim to keep pace with the rapid developments by focusing on smart application of services and innovation in all fields," Al Gergawi added.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and member of the Board of Trustees of DFF, said that smart systems will revolutionise Dubai's transportation sector, and enhance the emirate's status as a pioneer in futuristic solutions.

A joint venture between the RTA and DFF - the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy - aims to convert 25 per cent of its total commuting trips to autonomous mode (driverless) in the near future. And as part of Dubai's strategy to shift to autonomous transportation, RTA recently began trial runs of the first driverless smart vehicle, accommodating up to 10 passengers.
Saif Al Aleeli, CEO of DFF, said: "Hyperloop is now a major topic of study and research, in line with global innovations. Smart transportation is also key pillar of DFF's vision for Dubai's Future Cities programme."
