Sorrow, pride as UAE martyrs laid to rest

Relatives of the two UAE soldiers who were martyred in separate incidents over the weekend have spoken of their sorrow and pride.
State news agency Wam reported on Saturday that one of the fallen soldiers, Warrant Officer Rashid Ali Mohamed Al Dhahoori, was among the UAE Armed Forces' fearless soldiers. He died while taking part in the Saudi-led Arab coalition 'Restoring Hope' in Yemen.

His friend, Captain Mahmoud Rashid Al Murshid, who was also his boss at work in the army, told Khaleej Times that the serviceman was so devoted and loved serving his nation.
"Obaid was really a true patriot," said Al Murshid. "He demonstrated utmost love and loyalty to serving his country and everyone respected him."
He added: "His death is such a big loss for the nation."
Captain Al Murshid noted that Al Mazrouei is survived by his wife and a nine-year-old son, Khalid.
The second soldier, First Corporal Obaid Jowhar Obaid Al Mazrouei was martyred during a routine training mission in the UAE.
Both the fallen servicemen were laid to rest in funerals in the emirates of Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah on Sunday.
An Arabic newspaper quoted the martyr's elder son as saying that the UAE's sons - both old and young - are ready to offer the dearest of what they have for their nation. He added that everyone is ready to pursue the path of martyrdom in defending the nation.
"I was shocked by the news of Rashid's death," said Humaid Al Dhuhoori, cousin of Rashid Ali Mohamed Al Dhahoori, 43. "The family and the entire village were devastated, but we also have the pride and joy of having him a martyr. He died serving his nation."
Al Dhuhoori told Khaleej Times that Rashid was a kind and loving person who respected everyone in the family. "He was such a friendly cousin and everyone in our village loved him," said Saeed Al Dhoori, another cousin of Rashid's. "We will always miss him."

Rashid, survived by three boys, with eldest aged 11, was buried in Shaam area, north of Ras Al Khaimah after Asr prayers. The serviceman had completed his high school at Ahmed bin Majid School in Ras Al Khaimah before he joined the armed forces, said his family. reporters@khaleejtimes.com
