Snapchat guru connects with fans offline at SIBF

Much to the delight of his fans, one of the most influential social media figures in the Arab world and Kuwait's own snapchat guru Sheikh Majed Al Sabah, encouraged them to make use of social media platforms to engage in meaningful discussions.
Fans and followers across the country thronged the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) venue to meet their idol, who engaged them in a discussion about the value of knowledge and books.
"We all have to understand that reading is the most effective method to acquire knowledge. Teachers and educators should promote that."
Al Sabah is known for his captivating documentation and narration of the historical and cultural legacies of the cities he visits. At the fair, he engaged his fans in a discussion about the value of knowledge and books, and shared his passion for travel fuelled by his curiosity for exploration.
Encouraging all users of social media to acquire more knowledge and do more research, Sheikh Majed said: "Social networking sites are like mobile broadcasting stations that monitor our lives, and telecast it in interactive and more engaging ways to the world. Even though this is fun and almost addictive for some, we should be mindful of the quality of the subject matter we post on various social media platforms.
"There is no compulsion to keep putting up new posts; when you don't have anything useful, it is just okay to say nothing. I never feel compelled to just put up a post for my followers if I have nothing interesting or useful to share. The new generations are in dire need to be trained in research methods, and learn how to effectively access information. Visual materials, authenticated materials on the web, magazines and books are all sources of information and knowledge," he added.
He extended his appreciation to Sharjah and the SIBF management for providing a platform to connect with his fans 'offline', adding that the book fair is a remarkable cultural project that residents of Sharjah and the UAE should feel proud of.
