The Ministry of Infrastructure Development on Monday announced developing a new road in the emirate of Sharjah.
The development of the 42 km arterial road will cost approximately Dh174 million, according to a senior official.
Eng Ahmed Al Hammadi, the manager of roads with the ministry, said the Maleha Road is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.
"The major road starts from Al Badeea intersection on the Emirates Road and end at the Shaikh Khalifa intersection."
The development work spans the maintenance of the existing road, and adding a third lane in both directions, he added.
"The new road will also have head shoulders whereas the concrete barriers will be replaced with iron ones to prevent sand accumulation."
End Hammadi indicated that the nature of the road development is quite different. "We will be connecting two points which see busy traffic all the week long. Therefore, we had to adopt an innovative way to avoid traffic disruption during the two-year project."
To find a way out to this critical problem, the ministry of infrastructure development, in collaboration with the bodies concerned in the emirate of Sharjah, has decided 28 road diversions in both directions.
"These include six detours every 3 km on both directions; this will significantly help reduce traffic congestion on the arterial busy road."
Noting, Eng Hammadi said each and every patch of the road that includes six road diversions will be completed in three months. "Work is as scheduled and will be accomplished in due time."
Urging all motorists to be attentive and careful on the road, reduce speed, and strictly follow road signs, he said the new road will curb traffic accidents and repetitive knots.
The ministry of infrastructure development is all set to make Emirati people happier in view of the 2021 Emirates Vision, by adopting the latest international relevant practices, Eng Hammadi underlined.
"The projects were meant to give a boost to the security system in the country and provide the UAE population with the necessary services that ensure a better lifestyle for them all."
