Indian worker in Sharjah dies as steel bar falls on his head

Sharjah - According to an official at the hospital, the deceased was rushed to the operation theatre, but died while he was being operated upon.

A 26-year-old Indian worker died after a solid steel bar fell on his head while working in a factory in Al Ghail Industrial area in Sharjah.

The deceased, who was identified as K.M., received serious damage in his skull and suffered internal bleeding.

The nearest police team, comprising forensics, patrol and ambulance, was dispatched as soon as the police received a call, a police official said, and rushed the worker to Al Dhaid Hospital.

According to an official at the hospital, the deceased was rushed to the operation theatre, but died while he was being operated upon.

Police launched an intensified investigation into the case and held several officials at the factory, and questioned the worker's colleagues, who said that the deceased was not wearing a safety helmet.

Police have urged factories and construction companies to ensure that all workers wear safety and protection equipment to reduce injuries and death at workplace.

The concerned authorities must also ensure all companies are following the workers protection and safety law and must be penalised in case of negligence and failing to follow such rules.
