In a bid to reinforce its message of goodwill and support to all young people, members of the Sharjah Children Shura Council (SCSC) have called for the implementation of national 'giving initiatives' in schools across the country, engaging children in the UAE's projects around the world as ambassadors for good. SCSC members posed questions to the session's guests, focusing mainly on their strategic institutional plans, their effectiveness and ability to serve the country and the various members of society, particularly children.
The recommendations of 68 young parliament members were announced during the inaugural session of the 15th edition of the council on Wednesday, at the Consultative Council of Sharjah, attended by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, in keeping with the UAE's 'Year of Giving 2017', declared by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The 2017-2018 edition, organised by the Sharjah Children Centres (SCC) under the theme 'Working together for a better nation,' is being held under the patronage of the wife of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, chairperson of the 'Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators and wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.
The session was attended by Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Jarwan, secretary-general of the Sharjah Consultative Council, Brigadier Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police, Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Yusra Abdul Ghaffar Baqi, goodwill ambassador at the UN, and head of Happiness and Corporate Social Responsibility at Aafaq Islamic Finance, and Aysha Ali Al Kaabi, acting director of SCC, in addition to 68 members of SCSC and a number of local media representatives.
The session was presided over by Rashid Saif Khalifa Al Tunaiji, with the participation of the first vice-president, Maria Ahmed Al Naqbi, the second vice-president, Al Hoor Mohammed Al Hooti, and the SCSC Secretary, Fatima Faraj Al Amiri.
Council members presented a number of recommendations from the session including implementing national 'giving initiatives' in schools across the country, and the need for cooperation with Sharjah Police and relevant authorities in activating awareness programmes to protect children from the potential dangers of using smart devices.
Aysha Ali Al Kaabi, acting director of SCC, said: "We have learned from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah that the nation's development starts with its children and youth. This is why so much effort and support is invested into building their skills and abilities, which play such a major role in designing our future."
"We are taking a step forward into the future of our country by investing in its human capital and strengthening its resolve. The consecutive and continuous editions of the council lead new efforts to advance new generations, furthering their ability to cope with change, and sharpening their determination and responsibility towards their nation."
Highlighting the role and goals of SCSC, Al Kaabi underlined that the nation's development is fundamentally built on developing its communities, starting from a young age, which sees civil society as the cornerstone of advancement and progress - a vision that puts culture and education as a priority to empowering children and helping them to realise the UAE's aspirations and hopes.
