The Sharjah Police have restored Dh222,976 to its owners amicably through its 'reconciliation is good' initiative during the first half of this year.
Dr Khalifa Kalander, director of Comprehensive Police Stations at the Sharjah Police, said the police received 3,955 financial dispute complaints at its various stations in the emirate and it solved them amicably without referring to the court.
The initiative, which was recently launched by the directorate of police stations, aims to provide opportunities to defendants in bounced cheque cases to settle their dues without going to the court or trial, through reconciliation methods.
The initiative also reduced the volume of work at courts. It also contributed in ensuring social stability and providing best services, he said.
Dr Kalander added that the Sharjah Police have always sought to achieve family stability of the defendants in these cases by helping them to avoid the penalties imposed in financial issues, especially imprisonment, which has negative effects on the individual and his family, and society in general.
