A 34-year-old Emirati woman sustained several injuries after ramming into the control box of a traffic light at the Mohammed bin Salem intersection in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The central operations room of RAK Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time.
Initial investigation on the mishap show that the woman driver lost control over her car, ran into the traffic light's control box, and then into another vehicle at a busy intersection.
Col. Ahmed Saeed Al Naqbi, acting director of the traffic and patrols department of the RAK police, said all the traffic lights on the intersection were totally damaged in the mishap.
"The traffic police had to control the traffic manually until the technician concerned fixed the control box of the traffic lights."
Col. Al Naqbi urged all drivers to observe traffic rules and regulations. "Speeding is one of the main reasons behind losing control over the steering wheel, and critical accidents."
