The young girls came in bright tutus, neon-coloured wigs and butterfly wings while the boys wore face paints and some came as pirates. It was a day of fun - that also promoted a healthy and active lifestyle - for students at Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai (SISD) as they tried to set a world record for the most number of kids who participated in a 'Born to Move' class on Wednesday.
Born to Move is an exercise technique developed by group exercise guru Les Mills aimed at inspiring kids as young as two years to actively engage in fitness and various physical activities.
It is founded on the idea that all children "are born to move" and classes are geared towards achieving a lifelong love of movement, based on the kids' innate need to move and enjoy.
"No world record has been set yet for the most number of kids who did this (Born to Move) exercise in an outdoor environment, that's why we came up with this event," Benjamin Cassaigne, head of after-school activities at the SISD, told Khaleej Times.
"The education sector in Dubai is growing rapidly and schools need to differentiate themselves from their competition by providing the best service possible to their students and parents. We aim to broaden children's horizon by introducing a wide array of after-school activities and finding the one thing that makes that child fall in love with fitness," he added.

SISD head of school Beat Sommer said: "Born to Move has brought the schooling community together and inspired the young to stay active, which is all part of a balanced lifestyle that we strongly encourage at the school."
Parents, teachers, school staff and some nannies also participated in the event sponsored by Reebok and organised by Dubai-based sports and events company Stryx held at the newly opened sports field of SSID.
SISD officials did not give a final head count yet of the students who participated in Wednesday's activity but they said they will send the requirements (videos and photos) to Guinness World Records management for verification.
