The Ministry of Labour held two Iftar gatherings (majlis) for around 4,300 labourers in a special tent last week, as part of its humanitarian initiative during the holy month of Ramadan.
The first Iftar, which was held on July 31, in the Muhaisnah area in Dubai witnessed a gathering of around 1,300 workers, while the second had around 3,000 workers and was held in the Jebel Ali Industrial Area.
The labourers thanked the ministry for their kindness and enjoyed watching a short video about the dangers of working during peak sun hours from 12.30 to 3 p.m. The ministry has imposed a countrywide ban on outdoor work between 12.30 and 3.00pm from June 15 until September 15 this year.
Qasim Jamil, Director of Guidance Department, said, “The ministry is keen to help all labourers in the country and has implemented a number of events during the holy month of Ramadan. According to a schedule made by the ministry, labourers will enjoy many activities in the evening periods inside their labour accommodation clusters, such as football games, basketball and volleyball.”
