Man arrested for witchcraft

(Staff Reporter) / 31 March 2013

ABU DHABI- An Arab man has been arrested by the Abu Dhabi Police for sorcery ten days after he arrived in the country as a tourist.

The 38-year-old man, H.H., claimed that he could harmonise hearts of people, dissolve the power of black magic and multiply money. He said each magic talisman — a mixture of magic material — has its own cost.

Colonel Dr Rashid Mohammed Burasheed, Director of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said the man was arrested after the police was tipped off that suspect was performing witchcraft. The police seized the materials he used for black magic.

The suspect confessed to the crime but claimed that it was not a kind of sorcery, but he said what he was doing was Islamic exorcism, said Col. Burasheed.

However, Burasheed asserted that the materials seized from the suspect are considered as the substances used in black magic, such as pieces of papers used as talisman, needle, threads, incense and bottles that contain dry and liquefied materials.
