Filipinos urged to donate to relief fund

Lily B. Libo-on / 12 December 2012

After leaving 647 dead and affecting 487,364 families, super-typhoon Bopha has devasted many in the Phillipines and the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has enjoined all Filipino expatriates to assist the ongoing relief operations for the survivors.

Over five million survivors from 50 provinces, municipalities and cities in the Philippines, have been left to pick up the pieces, following the devasting typhoon. To date, an estimated cost of damages to infrastructure, agriculture and private properties has totalled approximately 7,116,388,040 pesos, equivalent to Dh636,402.

Philippine Ambassador Relucio-Princesa advised donors on Monday to send their cash donations either to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre  or to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The latest report received by the embassy from Manila said that 70,869 houses have been damaged and 21 municipalities and cities have still been experiencing power interruption.
